First birthing class

May 20, 2006

The middle-aged instructor had a breathy, singsong voice and a face that looked to be no stranger to organic soaps and soft loofahs. Her primary take-home message appeared to be that every woman's birthing experience was unique and usually not at all like the dramatic experiences most of us have seen in movies or tv shows where the mother-to-be lays on the bed splay-legged and shrill. Also, that it is completely possible to take long walks in the park, organize your CDs, and perhaps even get caught up on some gardening all while in the midst of labour. We also performed some zen breathing exercises, as a group, and I opened my eyes to see who was taking them seriously and who, on the other hand, was like me.

My wife seemed to enjoy the whole thing though.
